Zadar Port Authority


Port authorities are non-profit legal entities whose establishment, organization and activities are regulated by the Law on Maritime Property and Sea Ports, and are established by the Government of the Republic of Croatia.

The decision of the Government of the Republic of Croatia establishing the Zadar Port Authority was adopted at the session held on February 13, 1997, and entered into force upon publication in the Official Gazette on February 18, 1997. It is responsible for the management, construction and use of ports open to international public traffic which, due to their size and importance, have been declared ports of special international economic interest for the Republic of Croatia.

The basic legislative framework for the activities of the Zadar Port Authority is governed by the provisions of the Law on Maritime Property and Sea Ports and the Maritime Code.

The ports of special international economic interest for the Republic of Croatia managed by the Zadar Port Authority are:

  1. Port of Zadar – passenger port
  2. Gaženica port – passenger port
  3. Port of Gaženica – cargo port
  4. Vela Lamjana port – fishing port

Basic activities of the port administration

  1. taking care of the construction, maintenance, management, protection and improvement of the maritime assets represented by the port area,
  2. construction and maintenance of the port infrastructure, which is financed from the budget of the founder of the port authority,
  3. expert supervision over the construction, maintenance, management and protection of the port area (port infrastructure and superstructures),
  4. ensuring permanent and unhindered performance of port traffic, technical-technological unity and safety of navigation,
  5. ensuring the provision of services of general interest or for which there is no economic interest of other economic entities,
  6. coordination and supervision of the work of concessionaires who perform economic activity in the port area,
  7. making a decision on the establishment and management of a free zone in the port area in accordance with the regulations governing free zones,
  8. other jobs established by law.
